Shenzhen, with its strong presence in the high-tech industry, has forged significant connections with Ireland, often hailed as the Silicon Valley of Europe, according to Wang Lei, chief representative of IDA Ireland, Ireland’s foreign direct investment agency.
深圳凭借其在高科技产业领域的强大影响力，与被誉为欧洲硅谷的爱尔兰建立了重要联系，爱尔兰投资发展局首席代表王磊如是说道。爱尔兰投资发展局隶属于爱尔兰政府的官方投资与发展机构。
“Shenzhen has strong powers to lure foreign investments due to its exceptional business environment, efficient government services, sound infrastructure, strong intellectual property management, and effective resource allocation,” Wang told Shenzhen Daily during a recent interview at his office in Futian District.
“深圳以其优越的营商环境、高效的政府服务、完善的基础设施、强大的知识产权管理和有效的资源配置，对外资来深投资有强吸引力。”王磊最近在位于福田区的办公室接受记者采访时说。
Operating three offices in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, IDA Ireland chose Shenzhen as its South China base due to its strength in high-tech, internet information, biomedicine, and high-end manufacturing sectors, which align with Ireland’s development strategies.
爱尔兰投资发展局在北京、上海和深圳设有三个办事处。之所以选择深圳作为其华南基地，是考虑到深圳在高科技、互联网信息、生物医药和高端制造业等领域的优势与爱尔兰的发展战略不谋而合。
Over 20 leading Irish companies, particularly high-tech firms, have established operations, centers, or research facilities in Shenzhen. According to Wang, five firms experienced remarkable growth in the city in 2023. Among them are Mergon, one of Tesla’s key suppliers; Combilift, a global leader in multidirectional forklift manufacturing; EPS Global, a leading distributor of specialized IT components used in data networking and a well-known data solutions provider for clients like Tencent and Alibaba; and Exertis, one of Europe’s largest and fastest-growing tech distribution and specialist service providers.

The success of PCH International, a global supply chain solutions provider, stands as a prime example of Irish achievement in Shenzhen, Wang said. Founded by Irish entrepreneur Liam Casey in Dublin, the company established its headquarters in Shenzhen focusing on electronic components trade. The company currently boasts more than 4,000 employees worldwide, with its business spanning various industries including consumer electronics, personal computers, medical devices, and telecommunications.

Collaborating with Enterprise Ireland and the local government in Shenzhen, IDA Ireland provides crucial support for Irish enterprises, including assistance in tax, talent, land, and technology.

“The Shenzhen government is dedicated to providing substantial assistance to foreign-invested enterprises in land allocation, talent acquisition, and project-related necessities,” Wang said.
"深圳市政府致力于为外商投资企业在土地配置、人才引进、项目相关配套等方面提供实质性帮助。”王磊说。
This collaboration has significantly enhanced trade and economic ties, evidenced by initiatives such as signing MoUs with Qianhai authority and high-level leadership visits, laying the groundwork for enterprise cooperation and project development.
通过与前海管理局签署战略合作备忘录及高层互访等举措，这些合作大大促进政府间经贸合作，为中爱企业合作和项目开展奠定了基础。
One particular noteworthy event is IDA Ireland’s facilitation meeting between Eamon Ryan, Irish minister for energy, and BYD leaders in Beijing last March. The meeting focused on new energy development and the transition to sustainable energy sources, especially in the hydrogen power and electric charging sectors.
值得一提的是，爱尔兰投资发展局于今年 3 月促成爱尔兰能源部长埃蒙·瑞安与比亚迪公司领导人在北京的会谈。双方讨论了新能源发展和国家能源转向新能源发展方向的问题，重点聚焦在氢能源和新能源汽车充电领域。
IDA Ireland has also arranged a significant meeting between Ann Derwin, Irish ambassador to China, and BYD senior representatives in May last year at BYD’s headquarters in Shenzhen, further bolstering collaborative efforts between China and Ireland.
去年5月，爱尔兰国际发展局还促成了爱尔兰驻华大使安黛文与比亚迪高层代表在比亚迪深圳总部的重要会谈，进一步加强了中爱两国的合作。
Looking to the future, Wang emphasized Ireland’s intention to expand collaboration with China, particularly in high-tech, biomedicine, new energy, new materials, and information technologies, in addition to the gaming sector. As the year 2024 marks the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between China and Ireland, expectations are high for further growth in bilateral investment and trade activities, underlining the continued progress of this productive partnership.
展望未来，王磊表示爱尔兰有意向扩大与中国的合作，尤其是在高科技、生物医药、新能源、新材料、信息技术以及游戏领域加大双边的投资跟贸易往来。2024 年是中爱建交 45 周年，双方将加强在投资和贸易上的往来，进一步深化双边经贸合作。
